Before I begin a review of this album, I must first say that I am prejudiced in this manner. This was my first AIO album and really the one that started my craze with AIO. I had heard AIO on the radio off and on for years before (it was difficult to get in the country in those years before the Internet), but this was the one that began my fascination and love for the series. Looking back and trying to judge the series objectively, I still find that almost every episode is near-perfect, with the exception of Melanies Diary, which is a bit predictable but still a good episode. I still find Waylaid in the Windy City one of most well-written, thought-through adventure stories in AIO history. It is a perfect blend of Blackgaards "charm", Maxwells wittiness, and an utterly exciting storyline. Someone to Watch Over Me still shines as a great story with a lot of punch when the final scenes roll around. Then there are the subtle yet powerful episodes like The Second Coming, Emotional Baggage, The Homecoming, and Last in a Long Line. Furthermore, these episodes had some major character development for the Jacobs girls and Connie and Euguene, who had his first emotional episodes.
Favorite Episode: Waylaid in the Windy City
Rating: 4 stars
The Gold Audio version of this album includes "Gone Fishing," one of the original Focus dramas that led to the creation of Adventures in Odyssey.
This was my FIRST AIO collection and it was the one that started the entire fascination and love of AIO.
